Choosing a Live Christmas Tree is a New Tradition
Wednesday, December 15th, 2010
Thanks for the post from Sylvester Campbell
Last year we started a new tradition in our home, instead of picking out a cut tree and having to dispose of it after Christmas; we bought a live Christmas tree and continued the Christmas tree experience after the holidays and will continue to honor this tradition for years to come. The children show more holiday spirit with a real live tree and the astonishing experience of replanting the tree is a memory I will treasure always.
We spend the whole day as a family the day after Thanksgiving, starting with the traditional after Thanksgiving breakfast and watch as the excitement grows on the children’s faces. They wait in anticipation for the moment we can leave the house and their special day begins.
We start out midday loading the car up with the children while my husband set the home security system from www.ALLHOMESECURITY.com and locks the house. The first thing on our list is to visit our local department store and each of our three children pick a name off the gifting tree that matches their age group. We encourage our children to purchase a gift for these children in need, trying to instill in them the spirit of humanity and giving back.
We then head to the tree lot to pick out our live tree, the children eyes sparkle with pure excitement in anticipation of getting home with their real live tree. When we arrive we pull out all the lights and decorations getting ready for the decorating ritual. Each child over the years has made ornaments and although we have some Christmas bulbs we have another tradition and that is to fill the tree with homemade ornaments.
Once the tree is decorated we head out in the neighborhood to take in the spectacular winter wonderland that magically appears on this night, the houses are illuminated with the splendor of Christmas and we know the holiday is upon us
