American Silver Eagle Sales at Near-Record High

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Recent sales for U.S. Mint coins have been mixed, according to Silver Coins Today. However, there have been some products that have seen significant movement in recent weeks, and one of them is in American Silver Eagles. These dollar coins have been hot commodities in recent weeks as collectibles dealers have been adding them to their inventory.

The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. First released in November 1986, the silver eagle’s obverse is based on the “Walking Liberty” design first developed by Adolph A. Weinman for American coins in 1916. The reverse is a heraldic American eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons.

The silver eagle has become a coin dealer favorite in recent years because of the scarcity of the materials used in its development. The demand for precious metals caused production to be suspended for most of 2009 and only brought back on an allocation basis. It appears that American Eagle coin sales will reach three million in June – not quite eclipsing the record of 3.6 million set in May.

U.S. and European Union band together for pink and red coral protection

Friday, October 30th, 2009

An announcement about international trade protection might not seem like it has much to do with designer fashion jewelry, but in this case there is a direct connection, as both the United States and the European Union announced in October that they plan on seeking protection for both pink and red coral.

These types of coral are prized for their beauty, making them some of the world’s most valuable wildlife commodities. But this has also made them more and more rare. Environmental groups hailed the decision as a step toward the sustainable management of the species. Many leading names in the fashion industry have already removed pink and red coral from the lines, including Tiffany, Pottery Barn and Melissa Joy Manning jewelry.

At Rilee and Lo, we understand that whether you are shopping for Rachel Leigh jewelry or other pieces, you also want to be environmentally friendly. We applaud the efforts of designers to protect precious wildlife.
