SAT still important for college entrance

Friday, November 13th, 2009

While it is common knowledge that the majority of colleges in the U.S. require the SAT, it is less known that many of these colleges impose SAT cut-offs for scholarships and financial aid. Students need to score above a certain score to be eligible and if they don`t reach that score threshold they don`t receive the scholarship. To avoid getting disqualified for both scholarships and financial aid, we recommend signing up for ACT, SAT or PSAT tutor courses.

According to C2 Education, preparing for the various college entrance exams has become a rite of passage for high school students. It is important to find the most qualified tutoring company that offers a complete list of services for college preparation. For example, companies such as C2 can offer more than just tutoring for college entrance exams. In addition to personalized SAT prep courses, students will receive college counseling, standard schoolwork help and specialty-designed shadow classes.

Therapeutic Boarding Schools for Troubled Teens

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Therapeutic boarding schools are designed to help troubled teens get through their most difficult years and challenges. Whether your teenager is suffering from drug abuse, depression or an eating disorder, a boarding school offers a structured, academic program that promotes self discovery and healing.

However, with so many different programs available for troubled teens today, it is difficult for parents to decide whether a boarding school is the right solution to their teenager’s problems. Turning Wings Academic Institute in Montana is one of the best boarding schools in the nation and offers an online questionnaire to help parents determine whether or not their teenager is in need of help. The school specializes in behavior modification, emotional stability and academic achievement. Turning Wings has housed teenagers with a wide range of disorders including: ADHD, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, depression and various anxiety disorders such as post-traumatic stress and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The school has also treated teenagers suffering from eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

The benefits of therapeutic boarding schools are priceless. For example, Turning Wings offers residential treatment centers that are carried out by first-class clinical teams. The institute provides individual treatment plans that are tailored to address the needs of each teen. Good Parenting

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

If you have been struggling to deal with a son or daughter in their teens who just can’t seem to get their act together, you may be considering looking up therapeutic boarding schools or similar programs for help. For some parents, this might seem like admitting defeat — seeking the help of others means that the situation is beyond your ability to handle on your own. However, there’s nothing to be ashamed of if you’re in need of programs for teens that will help them pull away from the harmful habits they’ve been developing and start on the road to a better and brighter future.

As parents, it is your job to care for your child as best you can. However, the simple fact is that some troubled kids need more help than their parents are able to give. This is why trained professionals exist: for the more difficult cases.

Options for Troubled Kids

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

If you are a parent of a teenager who is currently slipping away from the path towards a bright and hopeful future, you might be wondering what you can do to help them get back on track. Perhaps you’ve read about boot camp for kids that are meant to help them straighten out. These facilities are often correctional facilities run by the state. In order to attend one of these boot camps, a teenager usually needs to be sentenced by a judge to attend one. While there are private short-term wilderness programs that take a similar approach, the results usually aren’t as long-term as parents would like.

Alternative high schools, generally referred to as therapeutic boarding schools, are a better choice for struggling kids. These long-term programs are designed to provide the support and therapy that a student needs in order to face the emotional or behavioral issues that are plaguing them.

Private School Tuition

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

The cost to attend a prestigious Manhattan preparatory school has gone up quite a bit in recent years. Today, some of the most elite private high schools in the city can cost parents more than $30,000 a year in tuition. While that might not faze some residents in a city where the cost to purchase an apartment can easily top $1 million, the number is quite high when compared to other private institutions in the U.S. Why are parents willing to pay so much for New York preparatory school tuition? The main reasons include smaller class sizes, the opportunity for teachers to really get to know your child, and the exclusive admissions. In the past ten years, the average cost of tuition for senior year at a private high school in New York City has increased a stunning 32.3%. And it isn’t just the tuition for which parents are shelling out the big bucks. Parents who are looking to enroll their students in private institutions like York Prep sometimes even hire advisers to assist them with the application process. This can cost as much as $9,000 on top of the tuition. Are these elite private schools in New York really worth spending as much or more on than the cost of tuition for an Ivy League college education? For many parents, the answer is a definitive yes.

Media Coaching Aims

Friday, January 30th, 2009

In today’s world, media is king.  Along with the old standards of radio, print, and television, businesses now have the Internet to contend with.  In addition, the interviewers of today don’t seem to have the same sense of propriety that many news and media professionals of the past seemed to possess.  Perhaps this is due to the influx of the non-professional bloggers into the sphere of popular information sources, or the public demand for dirt that has led to the rise of the dreaded paparazzi.   Whatever the reason, a media coach is highly recommended for anyone who will be a public face for their business, dealing with the media on a regular basis.

Training for dealing with the media will generally include a focus on the subtle but important differences between TV, print, radio, and phone interviews.  Your media coaching will likely also teach you how to deal with interviews with hostile interviewers, how to use selling points, utilizing body language, and more.

About Neuro Linguistic Programming ( NLP )

Friday, September 12th, 2008

There are many people who have heard of Neuro Linguistic Programming but aren’t really sure exactly what it is. Created in the 1970′s by Richard Bandler (a mathematician) and John Grinder (a linguist), Neuro Linguistic Programming is an approach to psychotherapy and an interpersonal communication model. Also known as NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programming has been hailed as an important advancement in counseling and psychotherapy, particularly in the early 1980′s. It has also had its controversy as well, with some critics considering it to be more "New-Agey" or "pseudoscience" than having an actual basis in science or neurology.

So what exactly does a person hope to accomplish when they undergo NLP training?

The aim of NLP is to increase a person’s emotional and behavioral integration and flexibility through instruction by a trainer or practitioner. The focus of this instruction is novel use of the body, the imagination and, in particular, language. This isn’t surprising, considering the influence that linguistics had on the formation of this model.

If you’re looking to take an NLP course or receive training, there are a number of options available for you. Today, one can find a number of different variants of NLP available. All one needs to do is look to find workshops, seminars, books and audio lessons that provide the users with principles and exercises that have been designed to bring about emotional and behavioral change not only in themselves, but in those around them. All of these options vary greatly in the breadth and the depth of the training that they offer. There is also complication from the fact that practitioners don’t always agree what patterns are considered NLP and which ones aren’t. Finding NLP and hypnotherapy training in London and other major cities around the world can be as easy as performing a quick Internet search.
