Perusing through vintage clothing websites

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Among a slew of vintage clothing websites that have obviously documented and continue to display fashion trends of years gone by, there is one that takes the time to introduce each trend that has come and gone, whether for men or women.

The website www.VintageClothing.com has come a long way indeed, in respecting tradition and keeping the past alive, with its wide array of clothing that is described in great details at its website. American vintage clothing has come up again and again as more and more fashion designers pay tribute to their predecessors in the changes that they brought about in fashion.

Strangely enough, war has also had an effect on fashion which was made evident in the changes after World War II, leaving behind the dull and bleak trend to embrace a more light and naughty demeanor. However, in more recent times, the war in Vietnam and Korea also indicated a change in fashion (if one can call it that!) amongst men. For example, the m65 field jacket was a large part of most wars and is available in its olive drab color as well as in its camouflage version on vintage clothing websites.

Whether you are looking for clothes from the 40 or during the 60s when the hippie culture was at its zenith or even 70s where the disco craze turned heads and as eras that have etched their name in history for their way of thinking and fashion, you will find it over the World Wide Web.

Sport Coats and business suits

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Sport coats are also referred to quite commonly as sports jackets. It is also called a blazer which is in fact a mistake. While the cut is similar to that of a suit coat, it is meant to be worn not as part of a suit, but on its own. Sport coats are generally made of hardier fabrics, when compared to usual suits. Fabrics such as hounds-tooth or woollen tweed are favourites for sport coats. Sport coats are meant for casual wear, and were traditionally worn only for outdoor sports and hunting.

Today, sport coats come under the ‘casual wear’ section of men’s suits. It is worn for casual events and sometimes even for business purposes, mainly amongst Americans. In North America, the sport coat is a wide favourite. Another type of sport coat is the shooting jacket which comes complete with a leather patch on the front of the shoulder area in order to prevent the wear and tear that could happen from the butt of the rifle or shotgun used. These sport coats also have matching elbow patches. For horseback riding, a hacking jacket is used. This is another type of sport coat, made mostly out of tweed.

Business suits on the other hand are far more formal and come in a variety of styles. They include:

Double breasted suits – this type of suit has two rows of button along the front side of the suit.
Single breasted suits – with just one row of buttons, this could range from two to three buttons which is most common, but could also have even four buttons for tall men.

Other business suit styles include British suits, Italian suits, American suits and other contemporary suit styles which are ‘trendy’ and sometimes consist of a fusion of a few of these styles.

Collecting Vintage Shirts

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Being a collector is risky business. By the time you learn enough to spot a fake from an original you’ve probably spent a lot of money. Collecting Vintage shirts is no different to this. If you are interested in this as a hobby or even if you simply want to wear them, then here are a few tips.

  • Look for a good online website that sells these products. The website should give detailed descriptions for each product including year of manufacture, condition, defects, pictures, etc. Above all, look for websites with good reputation. www.vintagetrends.com is one such website that you can visit.
  • Decide on the product that you are going to focus on. There is no point in buying a vintage tee shirt just because you didn’t find any Vintage shirts that you wanted. Nor is there any point in buying any retro home décor if you are not into collecting them or interested in doing a theme room in your house.
  • Be very well informed on what the terms Mint, Near Mint, Excellent, Very Good and Good mean. Items in Mint condition will fetch a very high price as opposed to items in Good condition.
  • Learn to identify the difference between a genuinely aged product and an artificially (chemically) aged product. This is one of the basic skills you need to acquire and is not as hard as it sounds.
  • Before you make any purchases, give a thought to how the clothing will be stored. Poorly stored collectibles will dwindle in value, which will result in a huge financial loss for you.

MMA Gear for training

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

In inventing the style of Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee has been called ‘the father of mixed martial arts’ that emphasizes being flexible enough to apply different styles of martial arts to his advantage. The MMA gear used today is no different from the way Bruce Lee geared up for battle, or was considered appropriate in the martial art form of ‘The Way of the Intercepting Fist’.

While the sport has become just as popular as boxing or professional wrestling these days, fans can buy their favorite fighter’s MMA Shirt as they cheer him on as he or she enters the ring. As soon as the Ultimate Fighting Championship became popular in the United States, its objectives were to provide maximum entertainment for the fans as well as take very good care of it fighters. Rules defining fouls and the clearly defined ways to victory were listed out so that the sport would lose the pre-conceived image of being a free-for-all brawl.

Naturally, fighters had to wear appropriate gear before entering the ring, with fight gloves being the most prominent one of them all that avoided gory matches. Setting time limits also ensured that the fighters to make the match an exciting one by battling with maximum intensity and talent for the 5 minutes allotted.

Even though men in the competition fight bare-chested, women use a fight shirt for obvious reasons and have come a long way in being taken seriously with the likes of Gina Carano and Megumi Fujii.
All in all, these are the reasons why MMA continues to succeed but Bruce Lee will continue to be one of the greatest martial artists the world has ever seen.

The freedom of 60′s clothing

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

If you turn back time to the first Woodstock (first titled as ‘An Aquarian Exposition) held in the sixties in upstate New York, one would find the emergence of the 60’s clothing counter-culture trends that strove to break away from the rigid trends of music, fashion and just life in general.

And break away they did, and which paved the way for a life of freedom, peace, love and brotherhood that were similar to the time when the French, Russian and American Revolution also occurred centuries earlier.

Only this time, there were no guns, cannons and civil wars using the first two, but a sort of peaceful rebellion that sought to bring a change of values that seeped into almost every aspect of our lives during that unforgettable time.

Watching Peter Frampton strum away at his guitar singing ‘Ooh, Baby I love your way’ that can only be described as cool, people even till today look back at that first Woodstock for musical inspiration. It’s not surprising that the same goes for fashion as well when it comes to retro tee shirts, bell bottom pants and so on and so forth that was to come much later on.

Retro home décor is also one of those aspects of a bygone era that one can find if they paid a visit to their aunt’s or grandparents. As a wise man once said, if one seeks to find himself, one must look for his roots, and that can be found in abundance on several vintage clothing websites.

Wool suits for businessmen

Friday, April 16th, 2010

The men’s suit has become a must-have for every man who wishes to present an image of professionalism, class and distinction regardless of whether this is in the place of business and in casual or formal occasions. And in maintaining this image, one has to pay attention to keeping up with the latest trends and the finest details with which his clothes are made, as this will make one stand out in a crowd.

Not only do online stores provide one with a range of suits and tuxedos in various styles, colors and materials but offers them at reasonable rates so that their customers get their value for money and perhaps, decide to shop again at the online store.

For example, if one wants to pick out a dress suit, you have options between the pinstripe suit and the solid color suit as well that uses the three button suit style that sooner or later can be used for both business and pleasure.

Single breasted, three buttoner wool suits are also good for the businessman who cannot afford to compromise on the material along with the style and color as well. In fact, business wear of this standard can help you get ahead in terms of the rat race as well.

So no matter where you are from and what your preferences are, you will always find the right color, style and type of material at reasonable prices at online store. So you should take your time in finding the right clothes for yourself.
