Car Donations to Charity

Monday, June 7th, 2010

There is a long list of organizations that accept charity cars these days. Of course, the causes they support are numerous spanning from breast cancer research funding to taking care of little children who do not have the basic necessities when it comes to food, clothing and shelter.

Not only does one not have to pay any money but they can give their car in any condition, and based on the value it goes for in an auction, receive a tax rebate for the same amount when filing their IT returns. So, for those who are strapped for cash in this current economy, making car donations to charity will be the best way to give back to the community without burning a hole in your pocket.

The beauty of this form of donation is that one can make these donations from anywhere in the United States, and all that needs to be done is to call one of the charity’s offices so that a representative can visit a location specified by you at a particular time and collect the vehicle in whatever state it is in with the title deed, if possible.

Making these vehicle donations do not eat into your busy schedule but are always set for a time when it is most convenient for you and your family. It is not giving when you have but giving what you have is what these charities look out for, and so, even an old car will do if it has to make someone’s life better.

Meditation Improves Depression Symptoms

Monday, May 24th, 2010

While modern medicine and psychotherapy can help most people with depression, others turn to alternative techniques as a way to combat symptoms. Learn how this ancient mind-body technique helps to improve depression symptoms.

For centuries, humans have practiced meditation to help reduce stress and produce a tranquil state of mind. Today studies suggest that meditation can also help improve mental disorders such as major depression. If you suffer from depression, consider the Osho Dynamic Meditation as a complementary or alternative treatment.

Available via Osho MP3, CD or DVD formats, the Osho Dynamic Meditation can help reduce depression symptoms by creating harmony between the mind and body. According to the Mayo Clinic, alternative medicine practitioners believe that the mind and body must be in harmony for a person to remain healthy.

In addition to a harmonious mind and body, exercise plays an important role in reducing depression symptoms. Unlike conventional meditation techniques that focus on sitting still, the Osho Dynamic Meditation technique is an active approach that leads the participant through five stages of physical activity that keeps the whole body moving.

Many people also find it helpful to continue their meditation training by listening to complementary Osho discourses. Along with meditation techniques, you can also explore other mind-body techniques such as yoga, massage therapy, guided imagery and acupuncture.

While studies suggest that alternative medicine techniques (such as those practiced by Osho Sannyasins) can help relieve depression symptoms, it is still important to consult a doctor and receive proper medical treatment including medication and psychotherapy.

Tantra Books written by Osho

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Conventionally speaking, the books that are based on the philosophy of tantra emphasize on the deity known as ‘Shakti’, and the interplay of power between Shakti and Shiva, with the objective of liberating one from rebirth and ignorance. Being one of the earliest forms of literature that has influenced several religions of the East, Osho has also written 17 tantra books of which ‘From Sex to Superconsciousness’ and ‘Tantra: The Supreme Understanding’ gave him the title ‘sex guru’ by both the Indian and foreign media.

Another area in which Osho wrote several books and gave discourses was in regards to meditation. His most popular meditation method known as the dynamic meditation method consisting of a five step process also required Osho meditation music to be played during the one hour that it lasts while also being blindfolded.

With the legacy of teachings that he left behind in literature, audio and video form when Osho passed away on January 19, 1990, his followers have also written books such as ‘From Fear to Enlightenment’ and ‘And nothing has ever happened’.

Speaking of discipleship, Osho sannyas was considered to be very different from the Hindu sannyas, which according to him, was based on social renunciation and imitation. Also known as neo-sannyas, the emphasis was mainly on achieving the complete inner freedom and responsibility of the individual to himself resulting in a lasting and deep transformation rather than mere superficial external changes.
Almost 650 books based on his discourses are global best-sellers and have been interpreted in 55 different languages, leaving us with the only conclusion that Osho truly gave us a completely new dimension on religion.

Osho Dynamic Meditation

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Although everyone experiences stress from time to time, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by it. When your stress overtakes your life, learn how to manage it by practicing the Osho Dynamic Meditation technique.

Stress is a natural part of life. However, when your stress level rises beyond your control and life seems unmanageable, it’s time to take a break. Meditation is a simple and easy relaxation method that can help reduce stress symptoms and get you back to enjoying life again. While they are many different types of meditation techniques to explore, here is a quick look at Osho Dynamic Meditation, an active meditation technique designed by the modern-day mystic and philosopher, Osho.

While standard meditation methods focus on sitting still and remaining silent, Osho Dynamic Meditation gets you up and moving and then slowly brings you back down to earth again. Accompanied by Osho meditation music, this one-hour meditation technique takes you through five stages that help release stress, revitalize the senses and restore inner peace.

Starting with ten minutes of chaotic, heavy breathing, the body builds up energy until it is led into the second stage of explosion. During the second stage, participants are encouraged to express bottled-up emotions even if it means shouting, crying, singing, laughing and going out of control. The third stage leads the participant into ten minutes of chanting and jumping up and down in order to release excess energy. During the fourth stage, participants are led to stop and witness everything around them for 15 minutes — a common practice followed by Osho Sannyasins. Finally, the fifth stage encourages celebration through dancing and expressing gratitude.

When participating in the Dynamic Meditation technique, keep your eyes closed and focus on yourself rather than the people or objects around you. In addition, it is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and have an empty stomach.

Baltimore offers incentives for car donation program

Monday, November 16th, 2009

In late October, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Baltimore, Maryland city government offered a unique incentive for people to take part in a local vehicle donation program. According to the paper, the city was offering a $75 gift certificate good for redemption at local businesses such as Precision Auto Care, Pizza Hut and Giant Food, in exchange for making an auto donation to Vehicles for Change. This is in addition to the tax exemption already offered by the IRS for charitable car donations.

The Halethorpe-based organization takes cars and sells them back to low-income families at reduced prices. They also facilitate low-income car loans to families who otherwise would not qualify. Cars that cannot be resold are sold for parts, with the proceeds funding the program.

Courage Center in Minnesota begins accepting boat donations

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The Courage Center, a rehabilitation facility for people dealing with disabilities in Minnesota, recently expanded its vehicle donation program to include boats. Now people can donate their used boat – whether it’s a sailboat or motor-powered. The move makes sense, as Minnesota is the “Land of a Thousand Lakes” and many people own old boats that are not being used because of lack of interest or the cost of needed repairs.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the Courage Center had a gala in September 2009 to launch its boat donation program. The first 50 people who attended and pledged to donate a vehicle of any kind – whether it was an auto donation or something else – received a two-hour cruise on BayView Event Center’s boat “Her Excellence.” Members of the Courage Center’s adapted sports teams such as basketball and quad rugby were also on hand to give demonstrations of their sports.

Report: IRS should claim down on vehicle donation fraud

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

A vehicle donation program is a great way for people to get rid of their old junker cars. Not only does this help charities that do good work for people around the world or in their local communities, but it also makes them eligible for a tax deduction.

However, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports that not everyone is playing by the rules when it comes to taking their proper deduction. They report that Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has asked the IRS to do more about people who overstate deductions based on a car donation. This could be accidental in many cases, as people mistakenly claim the Blue Book value of a car rather than the fair market (i.e. actual resale) value.

When making a car donation in Massachusetts or other places in the United States, it’s easy to avoid these problems when working through CharityCarDonation.com. Not only will we arrange a speedy pick up, but we’ll give you all the IRS paperwork you need to claim a fair deduction.

Vandals ruin Chicago-area car donation program

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

When people make a car donation in NYC or any other big city, they have the expectation that the car will go to help people in need. Unfortunately, UPI reports that the dangers of living in the city caught up with one Chicago-area car donation program, derailing it after three years.

For the past three years, Medinah Baptist Church had been restoring cars and giving them to single mothers who otherwise would not have transportation to get to work, take their children to daycare and perform other basic tasks. However, the auto donation program came to a halt in July after vandals trashed some of the cars they were planning on fixing.

The scofflaws broke windshields on five of the cars as they were sitting in the church parking lot, along with other damage. Since it would take “thousands of dollars” to make repairs, church officials instead decided to scale back their car donation program.
