Use a Comealong to Move a Boat

Monday, February 20th, 2012

A few years back, my brother bought an old boat that needed a lot of work done on it. We had to use a comealong to get it onto the trailer and hold it there while hauling it home. The boat, in my opinion, was falling apart so it took a lot of work and care to not have it really fall apart and leave pieces along the highway on the journey. I was never so relieved to see his driveway.

Once we got it backed into the spot where he planned on working on it, we had to figure out what to connect the hoist trolley to that would support the weight. It took a couple of days for him to decide to get some metal beams and make an A-frame for over the ship. Once we got it in the air and could move the trailer out from under it he decided he did not want to just set it on the ground. The problem was he did not own the trailer and had to return it.

We put the boat back on the trailer and went to by a wire rope hoist that would hold the ship for a couple of days until he could buy or make something for it to sit on more permanently. Luckily, he was able to find the parts he needed to create his own trailer the next day, but it took three days to make. The other day my son called and asked if I wanted to go pick up a ship with him he had bought in Florida and needed to get home to Delaware. I told him to call his uncle.
